Soldier attains martyrdom: Army foils infiltration bid by terrorists in Mankot in Poonch

•  2nd terror incident within 24 hours after attack on house of Shaurya Chakra recipient.
•  CASO continued on the 2nd day in Gunda in Rajouri, no contact with fleeing terrorists.

Rajouri, July 23: A day after five heavy armed Pakistani terrorists, reportedly of JeM outfit, were spotted close to LoC in Tatta Pani area in Mankot sector (in Mendhar subdivision) of Poonch district on Monday, alert Indian troops foiled a major infiltration bid by a group of 4-5 terrorists from Krishna Ghati sector in wee hours on Tuesday.
Reportedly three soldiers were injured in the terror attack (infiltration bid) out of which a soldier later attained martyrdom as he succumbed to critical injuries.
White Knight Corps in a post on X said: “Alert troops foiled an infiltration bid by effectively engaging infiltrating terrorists in the Battal sector at 0300 hours. During the exchange of heavy fire, one braveheart was injured. Operations are continuing”.
In the evening on Tuesday in another post on X White Knigh Corps wrote: ” All ranks of White Knight Corps salute the supreme sacrifice of breaveheart L/Naik Subhash Chander who laid down his life in the line of duty. White Knight Corps offers deepest condolences and stands firm with the bereaved family in this hour of grief”.
It is pertinent to mention here that for the last few months the Jammu region have witnessed a spike in terror attacks, including on Pilgrims’ bus that left nine people dead & 40 injured, and after intelligence reports of further spike in such incidents, a surveillance grid was placed on heightened alert.
At about 3 am on Tuesday, when a group of 3-5 highly trained Pakistani terrorists attempted an infiltration bid from Battal sector (Krishna Ghati) in Poonch district, alert troops challenged terrorists which was followed by an exchange of heavy fire .
Indian troops engaged the infiltrated with effective fire and foiled their attempt.
But in the ensuing fire fight, 3 soldiers received injuries.
Later one among them identified as L/Naik Subhash Chander resident of Uttar Pradesh succumbed to his injuries in the army health facility.
After medico-legal formalities and postmortem at Sub District Hospital in Mendhar, the District Poonch police handed over the body to unit officers to be dispatched to his native town.
Meanwhile, the cordon and search operation (CASO) still continued in Gunda & adjoining areas in Kotranka subdivision of Rajouri district.
At about 3 am on Monday a group of 3-4 terrorists attempted a terror attack on the house of Shaurya Chakra recipient, a VDG member namely Parshotam Kumar.
The alert troops on the nearby newly established picket thwarted terrorists’ nefarious attempt and in the exchange of fire a soldier and the uncle of Parshotam received injuries and are out of danger.
After the attack, a brief contact was established with the fleeing terrorist and since then no contact has been established till the filing of this report.
