Incident happened in Parat village (Sunderbani); Mother arrested for murder

Rajouri, June 23: In a horrifying incident, a mother in Rajouri district killed an 8-days-old girl child allegedly to involve her husband in daughter’s murder in a fit of rage after her repeated opposition husband’s second marriage in Kashmir province.
Sharifa Begam wife of Mohd Iqbal, resident of village Parat in Sunderbani subdivision of Rajouri district, is formally arrested by the police for killing her 8-days-old girl child and booked under section 302 (murder) IPC (FIR No. 41/2024) at Sunderbani police station.
Sources said Mohd Iqbal is working in Kashmir and most of the time remains there & rarely visits his house in Parat.
Sharifa came to know about husband’s second marriage and whenever Iqbal came to Parat, both had quarrels over the second marriage.
As Sharifa was continuously opposing her husband’s second marriage, both once again had a quarrel over this issue during Iqbal’s visit to Parat on last Friday.
Annoyed over repeated disputes between both, Iqbal left for Kashmir on Friday as he refused to succumb to Sharifa’s demand to leave second wife.
In a fit of rage, Sharifa chalked out a plan to involve Mohd Iqbal in their daughter’s murder, and on Saturday she killed her 8-days-old girl child after drowning her in a pond in the village.
After she contacted the villagers/relatives and informed them that Mohd Iqbal has killed her daughter by drowning and left for Kashmir.
Police at Sunderbani police station were informed and after legal formalities police brought the body to Sunderbani hospital for medico-legal formalities.
Taking cognizance of the incident, police under the supervision of SHO Sukhdev Singh, started investigation. Mohd Iqbal was also called by the police.
Sources said that during questioning, Sharifa has admitted the crime and is formally arrested by the police for a murder of her 8-days-old girl child.
