Samba, March 16: In a resolute crackdown on heroin smuggling, the Samba Police, under the leadership of SSP Vinay Sharma, achieved a significant breakthrough today by apprehending two interstate heroin smugglers and seizing approximately 50 grams of heroin from their possession.
A police team from Police Station Vijaypur, led by Inspector Zaheer Mushtaq, SHO PS Vijaypur, under the vigilant supervision of SSP Vinay Sharma, conducted a thorough vehicle check at NHW Naka AIIMS, Vijaypur.
Their keen observation paid off when they signalled a motorcycle, bearing registration number PB06AF-6614, coming from Kathua side to halt for inspection.
Upon spotting the police, the motorcyclists attempted to flee by accelerating the bike’s speed, but the alert police team swiftly intercepted and apprehended both the rider and pillion rider.
Subsequent inspection revealed approximately 50 grams of heroin concealed in their possession, marking a significant achievement for Inspector Zaheer Mushtaq within a brief tenure at Vijaypur.
The arrested heroin smugglers have been identified as Harpreet Singh, son of Satnam Singh, and Arshdeep Kaur, wife of Harpreet Singh, both residents of Chabal Road Guru Nanak Nagar Bahririwal, Punjab.
Sources indicate that this couple was previously apprehended by the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), with a substantial quantity of drugs seized from their possession.
A case FIR No. 37/2024 U/S 8/21/22/29 NDPS Act has been registered against the apprehended individuals at Police Station Vijaypur, with investigations already underway.
