Akhnoor, Jan 25: In a shocking revelation, illegal mining activities have come to light on custodian land in the Nud area of Akhnoor. The Custodian Department appears to be inattentive, with blatant illegal mining of soil occurring unchecked on government-owned land.
Sources tipped off Jammu Jottings about the ongoing illegal activities in villages like Nud, Balgara, and Amabaran in Akhnoor Tehsil. Simultaneously, large-scale illegal sand mining from the Chenab River is reportedly taking place in Devipur, Chack Kirpalpur, and Maira.
Upon receiving this information, Jammu Jottings promptly informed the concerned authorities, including the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) and Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP). A joint team was formed to investigate, but the culprits managed to escape the site, leaving behind a JCB (Pockland Machine) and an Alto Car, both seized by the police.
Tehsildar, also an Assistant Custodian, expressed surprise over the development, asserting that the Inspector Custodian should have been handling such matters. The police conveyed the incident to District Mining Officer (DMO) Gulshan Kumar, a KAS Officer, urging him to impose fines on the seized vehicles for violating rules and regulations.
Local residents have accused the Custodian Department, particularly Inspector Custodian, of collusion with encroachers and land grabbers, alleging involvement in illegal mining and land encroachment in exchange for substantial bribes.
Concerned Custodian Officer Ravinder Sharma acknowledged the situation, assuring a thorough investigation into the Inspector’s actions. Sharma emphasized that if found guilty, appropriate action would be taken.
Sources revealed that illegal miners have extracted a significant amount of soil from custodian land, creating pits as deep as 20 feet. This operation occurred openly during daylight, raising questions about the vigilance of both the custodian department and revenue officials.
In a startling development, the custodian land in Akhnoor faces a serious integrity challenge as the responsible inspector is accused of colluding with wrongdoers. Allegedly involved in both illegal mining operations and encouraging land grabbers, the custodian inspector’s actions undermine the very essence of custodian responsibilities. This revelation adds complexity to an already critical situation, demanding urgent attention and thorough investigation to uphold the integrity of custodian land management.
Jammu Jottings vows to delve deeper into this scandal, promising its readers a comprehensive expose on how the Inspector Custodian collaborated with illegal miners and facilitated land grabbers in encroaching upon government-owned land. The unfolding situation sheds light on the apparent negligence of the concerned department, highlighting the imperative need for prompt action by both the police and revenue officials.
