Jammu, January 05: The daring moves by land grabbers to defy the administration by forcibly removing government-placed signboards within a day of their installation at state owned land under Khasar No’s 356, mutation No 2004/1(Jeem) and a Pond under Khasra No 402 at village Paloura in Jammu, has reignited a contentious battle over land ownership in Jammu. This action, challenging the administration’s authority, marks an alarming upsurge in the audacity of anti-social elements, casting a shadow on the efficacy of the administration’s power and the upholding of law and order in the region.
The public has started questioning as who is more powerful? The administration with all its legal power or the land grabbers with loads of muscle power?
Jammu Jottings while keeping a tab on the follow-up of its earlier story learned from its reliable sources that land grabbers were again in action despite administrations swift action on January 2, 2024 and have removed the sign boards installed by the revenue authorises in clear defiance of the government action.
When contacted to confirm the news the Naib Tehsildar Mishriwala, Anwar Hafeez Chowdhry told Jammu Jottings that he has also verified the news saying that the land grabbers have indeed removed the sign boards from the above-mentioned land. He further said that since the Tehsildar Jammu (North) was away on a training, they were waiting for his resuming the duties and assured that the sign boards will be reinstalled on a concrete platform and an FIR will be lodged against the culprits.
Later Jammu Jottings also managed to contact the concerned tehsildar who said that a stern action will be taken against the culprits adding that administration will take such an action against these land grabbers that others will think ten times before indulging in any such illegal activity in future.
He also said that the case pertaining to this particular land will be finally disposed off and the land will be handed over to some government authority so that no such activity can take place there in future.
Notably, the district magistrate had previously underscored the removal of encroachments through a tweet, illustrating the administration’s determination to safeguard state-owned land. However, this recent act of defiance by land grabbers, disregarding the district magistrate’s statement, paints a concerning picture of lawlessness and a lack of respect for legal directives and administrative power.
This bold move by the land grabbers raises serious questions about the prevailing power dynamics between the administration and those challenging the rule of law. The forthcoming actions and responses from the administration are highly anticipated as they endeavor to reclaim their authority and restore the sanctity of the law.

Background:
It may be recalled Tehsildar Jammu (North), Aman Kumar Anand, had issued a stern warning to landgrabbers and encroachers, cautioning them against laying claim to state land in Jammu. He had emphasized that stringent legal measures will be taken against any involvement in illegal activities related to land encroachment.
This warning was prompted by a filed complaint on 30/12/2023, reporting attempts by landgrabbers to sell a portion of 24 Kanal, 13 Marla state land under Khasra No 356, mutation No 2004/1(Jeem).
This complaint pertained to land under Khasra No 356, earlier declared state-owned by the then District Magistrate Jammu, Anvy Lavasa, through an order on 29/04/2023. Subsequent official entries on the mutation register on 10/05/2023 solidified its status as state land. Despite this, reports indicated landgrabbers’ attempts to unlawfully sell the land, leading to the prompt action by Tehsildar Jammu (North).
Taking swift action, Tehsildar Jammu (North) formed a team accompanied by law enforcement, installed signboards marking the land as state-owned.
