Rajouri, July 11: In a two-night-long deliberate and massive operation alert troops of the Indian Army foiled a major infiltration bid by a group of 2-3 terrorists from across the LoC and killed one unidentified terrorist & also recovered warlike stores from his possession.
Army said at about midnight on July 10, alert ambushes of the Indian Army deployed along the LoC in the Nowshera sector observed movement of a group of terrorists moving suspiciously from PoJK side towards the Indian side.
PRO (Defence Jammu, Lt Col Suneel Bartwal said that alert troops kept the movement of the infiltrators under constant observation, and when they were nearly 300 meters inside our side of Line of Control they were challenged and a firefight ensued.
“Heavy and accurate fire was brought down on the terrorists, one terrorist was seen falling to the side, while two others who were injured, were seen taking cover into the jungle,” he added.
PRO said that as the area of operation being broken ground, having thick jungle and foliage, with inclement weather, the terrorists hid themselves in the jungle & additional troops were moved in, and the area was cordoned.
PRO further said that in a deliberate and massive search operation lasting over two days and two nights, the body of one terrorist has been recovered along with weapons and warlike stores.
During further search operations into the jungle blood trail, with drag marks on ground were observed leading towards the LoC pointed out that other injured terrorists taking advantage of the forest foliage managed to move back towards PoJK.
The recovery made from the possession of the slain terrorist includes one AK 47 Rifle along with three magazines & 175 Rounds, one 9 mm Pistol along with two Magazines &15 Rounds, 4 hand grenades, communication equipment, a large number of eatables, and clothing for sustenance.
Meanwhile, the body of the slain terrorist was handed over to police. A case under sections 307, 120B, 121 & 122 IPC has been registered at the Nowshera police station.
Later, police brought the body to sub-district hospital at Nowshera for post-mortem and other medico-legal formalities & collection of DNA samples for identification.
Post-mortem was conducted by a team of three doctors constituted by BMO, Dr. Iqbal Malik.
Earlier on the intervening night of 17/18 November 2022 at about 11 pm an infiltration bid was foiled in Nawshera sector, wherein a terrorist was killed while he tried to negotiate Indian Army’s minefield.
On 12 March 2023, Army conducted operations near LoC in the Jhangar area of Nowshera sector and recovered two sophisticated pistols, two kilograms of narcotics, and a two kilograms Improvised Explosive Device (IED).
