Army also conducts joint heliborne training exercises with IAF

Rajouri, July 11: The Indian Army on Tuesday felicitated the two residents of Suranankot tehsil of Poonch district who in spite of risk to their own lives helped the Indian Army troops, & police personnel in tracing and retrieving the bodies of two gallant soldiers who were swept away in the flash floods on 8 July 2023.
It is pertinent to mention here that an area dominance patrol of the Indian Army led by Naib Subedar Kuldeep Singh was on official duty and while crossing Dogra stream in Poshana area of Surankot Lance Naik Telu Ram swept away by flash floods triggered by heavy rains.
In an attempt to save Telu Ram, Naib Sub Kuldeep Singh was also swept away by a strong current.
Immediately after the incident, Indian Army along with police personnel and helped by locals launched a major search operation, and one body was recovered on Saturday while the mortal remains of Telu Ram were recovered on Sunday.
The local youth of the area played a major role in retrieving the bodies.
Civilians felicitated by the Indian Army include Karamat Hussain s/o Abdul Gani r/o Majid Mohalla; Shakeel Ahmed s/o Mohd Latif, Imran Ahmed s/o Mohd Rafiq, Raja Khan s/o Mohd Hussain, all residents of Lower Dogrian); & Mushtaq Ahmad s/o Mohd Akbar resident of Upper Dogrian.
Army said Karamat Hussain played a major role and after the incident immediately gathered locals and organised a search along with Security Forces.
“The selfless commitment exhibited by the individuals to extend a helping hand during the hour of need with utter disregard to their personal safety is indicative of the bonhomie & unflinching trust shared by them with the Indian Army” read PRO (Defence) Jammu, Lt Col Suneel Bartwal’s Tweet.
Meanwhile, the Indian Army on Tuesday conducted a joint helieborne training exercise with Air Force at Rajouri.
“Preparedness of troops of White Knight Corps to conduct special Operations was reviewed and rehearsed” reads another Tweet of PRO (Defence) Jammu.
