Jammu, May 16: In a shocking incident that has exposed the abuse of power and intimidation tactics prevalent in rural areas, a junior engineer of Power Development Department PDD working in Bishnah of Jammu district was brutally assaulted by two influential businessmen cum property dealers. The incident took place within the premises of the engineer’s office and in the presence of other staff members, who were also subjected to threats to discourage them from taking any legal action.
The junior engineer, whose name is being withheld for security reasons, was targeted over a minor issue, which quickly escalated into a violent confrontation. Eyewitnesses reported that the businessmen launched a vicious physical assault on the engineer, leaving him with visible injuries and deep psychological trauma. The assault took place within the very office space where the engineer was diligently carrying out his duties, making it all the more horrifying for the witnesses present.
What is particularly alarming is the subsequent threats issued by the influential businessmen cum property dealers to the entire staff, warning them against filing a First Information Report (FIR) or seeking justice. According to reports, the assailants, exploiting their powerful connections, explicitly cautioned the staff members, including the junior engineer, about dire consequences if they dared to report the incident to the authorities. This incident raises serious questions about the safety of individuals working in rural areas, where the influence of powerful individuals can often go unchecked. It highlights the urgent need for a robust and impartial legal system that protects the rights of every citizen, regardless of their social standing or economic background. However, it appears that these individuals are now attempting to shift blame by fabricating allegations of bribery against the victim. The assaulted junior engineer is not alone in this battle for justice. Last week In a distressing incident that has raised serious concerns about the safety of media personnel in the town bishnah, a representative of a prominent news portal Neetu Sharma was brutally assaulted by four unknown culprits wielding sharp-edged weapons and sticks. Despite the passage of several days since the incident, the police have yet to make any arrests in connection with the assault, leaving the victim and the media community in a state of fear and uncertainty. The inability of the police to apprehend any suspects thus far is a matter of great concern. The lack of progress in the investigation not only leaves the victim and their colleagues vulnerable to potential future attacks but also raises questions about the effectiveness of law enforcement in addressing such heinous crimes against media persons. The victim sustained severe injuries as a result of the assault and is currently undergoing medical treatment. Both the incidents has already gained traction on social media platforms, with concerned citizens demanding justice for the media person and junior engineer. It is vital for the online community to raise awareness and support the victim, ensuring that this case does not fade into oblivion. The victimized engineer and news portal representative the witnesses must receive adequate protection to ensure their safety and security during the legal process.
