Jammu, Apr 27:The future of electrical engineers of J&K is in complete darkness for past eight years, whereas there is no one to take their care. The electrical engineering seems a high sounding career option as everything around us needs electricity to function. The attractive role of electrical engineering in every field attracts thousands of students to pursue a career in it. In Jammu and Kashmir there are many institutes that offer electrical engineering like GCET Jammu, GCET Kathua, GCET Safapora, MIET College Jammu, MBS College Jammu, YCET Jammu, IUST Awantipora, NIT Srinagar, SSM Parihaspora, Kashmir University, etc. Every year hundreds of engineers graduate in electrical engineering from different colleges of Jammu and Kashmir and some students pursue electrical engineering outside the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The only organisation that provided job to electrical engineers in J&K was PDD which last time recruited engineers in the year 2015. Since then no recruitment for electrical engineers is being carried out. In year 2019 thirty posts of J.E and 68 posts of A.E were advertised but both of these were withdrawn. In November 2019 the Power Development Department was fragmented into various corporations like Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited, Jammu Power Distribution Corporation Limited, JK Power Transmission Corporation Limited, etc. The PDD which was recruiting engineers remains a mere parent department for the already working employees of erstwhile PDD which are now working in these corporations. The students of electrical engineering were mostly badly affected by the process of unbundling. The only of employment as electrical engineers in Jammu and Kashmir has been shattered now. For all the electrical engineering graduates in J&K there is only gloom and despair. Recently 102 Junior Engineers were promoted to Assistant Engineers. JKEEGA (Jammu and Kashmir Electrical Engineering Graduates Association) an association of working engineers in Power Department has many a times raised the issue to recruit new J.Es. According them the department is understaffed as no recruitment at entry level is being carried out since many years. They have stated as many as 422 posts of J.E are vacant and should be immediately filled so that the power department functions to its maximum potential. We the Unemployed electrical engineering graduates formed a group and visited the various corporations for enquiring about the number of vacant posts. Both JPDCL and KPDCL in response to our multiple grievances have stated that the posts are going to be advertised by the Govt. and not by these Corporations. Subsequently we visited Civil Secretariat both at Jammu and Srinagar where we are being told that the recruitment is under process. However no such process is seen on ground. All the electrical engineering graduates are in state of mental depression as there is no hope for us. The Lieutenant Governor led JK Government must take steps to fill the vacant posts of Junior Engineers and Assistant Engineers so that the twin targets of employment and enhancing manpower of power department be achieved. The electrical engineering graduates are waiting for the recruitment since long and are losing their precious years of Youth in the non-ending halt. Errors and Omissions are accepted.
