J&k: Around 52 injured as foot bridge collapses in Udhampur’s Chenani

Jammu, Apr 14: Around 52 people including children suffered injuries on Friday when an iron foot bridge collapsed in Bani Sangam village of Bain in Chenani block of Udhampur district in Jammu and Kashmir.
Police said that to participate in an annual Baisakhi Festival at Bani Sangam temple, hundreds of people were visiting to the spot.
While on the way, the bridge collapsed suddenly due to overloading in which around 52 persons sustained injuries.
“Three of the injured have been rushed to the district hospital Udhampur from where one 6-yr-old was referred to the Government Medical College and Hospital Jammu while others are admitted in Chenani hospital,” said police.
Union Minister, Dr Jitendra Singh, who is also Member Parliament Udhampur-Kathua tweeted, “I’m in touch with DC #Udhampur Krittika Jyotsana after receiving the report of the accident. My office is in touch with the local administration. All possible assistance being provided.” UNI
