ADGP Mukesh Singh inspects drug de-addiction center in Rajouri

Rajouri, April 6: During his visit to Rajouri on Thursday, Additional DGP Jammu Zone, Mukesh Singh, IPS visited Drug De-Addiction Centre and took stock of its functioning, and inspected the facilities available for the affected persons admitted in the center.
He was accompanied by DIG RP Range, Dr. Haseeb Mughal, IPS; Deputy Commissioner, Vikas Kundal, IAS, and SSP, Amritpal Singh, IPS.
It is pertinent to mention here that because of cross-border involvement in the smuggling of narcotics, a large number of youths are falling into the drug menace.
The visit highlighted the crucial role of such facilities in the fight against drug addiction in the district.
During his visit, ADGP Jammu, Mukesh Singh interacted with the staff and affected persons at the center and inquired about the facilities available to them.
He emphasised the need for regular counselling and medical check-ups to ensure that affected persons receive effective treatment. He also assured the staff of the center of full support in their efforts to provide quality care to them.
The ADGP discussed the challenges of drug addiction and strategies to address them during his visit. He emphasised the need to increase awareness about the harmful effects of drug addiction and to encourage youth to adopt healthy lifestyles.
The ADGP also assured affected persons of the government’s support in their rehabilitation and recovery process & encouraged them not to hesitate to seek help if they are struggling with addiction.
Vikas Kundal apprised the ADGP that the district administration, in conjunction with the police administration, is leaving no stone unturned in eradicating the societal scourge of drug abuse and several measures have been implemented to rehabilitate drug addicts.
As a means of curbing the sale of prescription drugs, closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras are being installed in chemists and pharmacies. Furthermore, monthly meetings of the National Coordination and Response Mechanism on Drugs (NCORD) are being convened regularly, he revealed.
the Administration has established dedicated anti-drug squads at the school level to educate parents on the harmful consequences of drug abuse and prevent their children from falling prey to it, the DC informed.
During monthly parent-teacher meetings in schools, special emphasis focuses on drug abuse, he added and added that in the past, special ‘gram sabhas’ have been held to aware people of the harmful effects of drug abuse, informed the DC.
The visit was also attended by Deputy CMO, Dr. Manohar Rana, and DSWO, Wakeel Ahmed Bhatt.
