LG expresses grief, directs district admin to provide all necessary assistance to affected persons

Rajouri, Mar 2: A race between two passenger vehicles to get more passengers on board resulted in a mishap in which 2 persons were killed while 12 others were injured in Kewal area of Budhal in Kotranka sub-division in Rajouri district.
The ill-fated overloaded (about 40 passengers) mini bus bearing registration NO.JK11-0836, which was on its way to Budhal from Kotrnaka, turned turtle on the road due to high speed near Kewal village.
“The driver repeatedly was asked to slow down the speed, but he didn’t respond and the mishap took place,” said eyewitnesses.
As the vehicle was overloaded many of the critically injured, including two killed, were at the doors of the minibus and came under the vehicle after the mishap.
Immediately after the mishap nearby villagers rushed to the spot and helped in rescuing the injured.
All the 14 injured, including 7 women, were shifted to the Community Health Center at Kotranka where a team of doctors under the supervision of Dr. Iqbal Malik, BMO, provided them with immediate medical treatment.
“Out of 14 injured brought to CHC Kotranka, 3 died (one died on way to Jammu) while 8 were referred to Associated Hospital & Government Medical College (AH&GMC) at Rajouri.
The killed were identified as Shakeel Ahmed (30) s/o Mohd Bashir r/o Kewal and Badar Hussain (26) s/o Khan Mohad r/o Kandi.
The injured who were referred from AH&GMC Rajouri to Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu for specialised treatment include Mohd Hafiz (35) r/o Kangota with left shoulder dislocation, scapula fracture, spine injury, chest trauma & mandible fracture and Mohd Irfan (27) r/o Phalni having a head injury, pelvic fracture NCCT-Head DIA.
Mohd Hafiz succumbs to injuries at Sunderbani while on their way to GMC Jammu.
Those under treatment at AH&GMC Rajouri include Saddam Shah (25) r/o Draman; Zahida Begam (55) r/o Phalni; Mohd Amin (45) r/o Kandi; Pushpa Devi (22) r/o Phalni; Parveen Anjum (40) r/o Targain and Abdul Rashid (45) r/o Shahpur.
“All the injured under treatment at AH&GMC are stable and under treatment and observation by a team of doctors,” said Dr. Mehmood Bajar, Medical Superintendent.
Those under treatment at CHC Kotranka include Alam Din (60) r/o Phalni; Sobia Kousar (18) r/o Draj; Bagoo Begam (60) r/o Kandi and Shahida Begam (45) r/o Draj
Deputy Commissioner, Vikas Kundal visited AH&GMC and supervised the treatment of those who were referred from CHC, Kotranka.
During his visit, the Deputy Commissioner interacted with the injured and inquired about their health, and instructed the medical team to provide them with the best possible treatment to avoid any complications.
He also assured the injured and their families that the District Administration would provide them with all necessary assistance during these difficult times.
Meanwhile, Lieutenant Governor Manoj has expressed shock and grief over the loss of lives in a tragic road accident in Rajouri.
In a condolence message, the Lt Governor said: “I send my heartfelt condolences to the members of the bereaved families and wish those injured a speedy recovery. I have issued instructions to the district administration to provide all necessary assistance to the affected persons.”
