Rajouri, January 1: New Year begins with bloodshed as the unidentified terrorists on Sunday struck at Upper Dhangri village, situated along Rajouri-Kalakot road under Rajouri police station jurisdiction, and 4 civilians-including father-son duo-were killed while 6 others were injured in terror shootout at about 7 pm in UT of J&K.
Out of 6 injured, two were critically injured namely, Rohit Sharma (30) s/o Gopal Das and Shub Kumar (20) s/o Satish Kumar, were airlifted to GMC Jammu at about 11 pm.
It is pertinent to mention here that it was the second attack by the unidentified terrorists within a month.
On December 16, two unidentified terrorists had killed two innocent persons outside the gate of Army’s TCP at Phalyan in Rajouri Township.
Family members, relatives & the people claimed that the sentry at the gate had opened fire in killed the two in a mistaken identity while the White Knight Corps in a Tweet said that the unidentified terrorists opened fire in the early morning hours in which two civilians were killed.
Reliable sources and some residents of Dhangri said that at about 7 pm terrorists struck in Upper Dhangri area, about 1 kilometer from the main chowk and opened indiscriminate firing at three locations (houses) within a range of 50 meters.
Few eye itnesses claimed that it was a case of targeted killings and the terrorists came to the village in SUV while others claim that first the terrorists asked to show the Adhaar cards and then opened fire.
Local residents, including Harish Bharti, a BJP leader, claimed that the district administration has weakened the VCDs in the area by withdrawing more than 60% of VDC guns.
“Today’s incident at Dhangri is a failure of security forces because as for the last about a month presence of two terrorists has been noticed in Muradpur, Phalyana and other adjoining areas including Dhangri,” said Harish Bharti & adding that the SOG team reached Dhangri after more than 90 minutes which is just 20 minutes run from Rajouri.
It is pertinent to mention here that a group of two terrorists was first spotted in village Muradpur after a family reported that two unidentified entered their house at about 5.30 am in ward 6.
Searches were carried out by the Security Forces but without any success. Again on December 16, two terrorists opened fire at Phalyana and killed two civilians.
On December 31, Security Forces carried out search in Phalyana and Muradpur areas after a suspicious bag was found.
The killed persons have been identified as Deepak Kumar (23) s/o Rajinder Kumar; Sstish Kumar (45) s/o Sat Pal, & Pritam Lal (56) s/o Lal Chand,; and Ashish Kumar(33) s/o Pritam Lal all residents of Dhangri.
The injured include Pawan Kumar (36) s/o Sat Pal; Saroj Bala (38) w/o Satish Kumar; Prince Kumar (21) s/o Rajinder Kumar; & Arushi Sharma (17) d/o Satish Kumar.
A massive resentment has been noticed among the resident of Rajouri against the repeated terrorist attacks which was evident from the fact that Additional DC faced a tough time at Associated Hospital & Government Medical College (AH&GMC) demanding the presence of DC.
Meanwhile, President Mohan Sanatan Dharam Sabha, Rajesh Datta has given ‘Rajouri Bandh’ call on Tuesday against the brutal attack by the terrorists which was supported by the BJP, Bajrang Dal, VHP and other sister concerns besides Rajouri Beopar Mandal.
In the meantime, Vibodh Gupta, BJP State General Secretary & former MLC is in continuous touch with District Administration and LT Governor and also prayed for the safety of the people.
Despite repeated phone calls neither DIG Rajouri-Poonch Police Range nor SSP Rajouri responded for the official & latest developments in this incident till the filing of this report.
