Rajouri, November 4: The Indian Army in ‘Operation Bandi Nala’ successfully eliminated a major infiltration bid in the Poonch sector on November 3 and reportedly killed three terrorists who were attempting to sneak into the Indian territory from Digwar area.
Brig Rajesh Bisht, Commander Poonch Brigade along with Dr.Haseeb Mughal, DIG, Rajouri-Poonch Police Range interacted with the media at Ace of Spades Division HQs (at Rajouri) on Friday.
“This incident (infiltration bid) is another clear indication of Pakistan’s calibrated support to terrorism. It is an attempt to disturb the peace & harmony in the Poonch & Rajouri sector,” said Brig Rajesh Bisht.
“Indian Army remains firmly deployed and will foil any such attempts of the terrorists to disturb the peace & the harmony of our society,” he added.
Brig Bisht informed that at about 9.30 am on Thursday the Indian troops observed a suspicious movement of 3 terrorists in Pathani suits who were trying to sneak across the LoC in Nakarkot area in Poonch sector.
“When the terrorists were challenged, they opened heavy fire on the Indian troops & in the ensuing firefight all the three terrorists were injured” he said.
After the firing was stopped search operation was launched in the area.
“The search was a daunting task as the area is thickly mined, has dense undergrowth and big boulders and the ground is undulating. At about 1 pm, the body of the terrorist along with AK74 rifle was recovered,” said Brig Rajesh Bisht.
During a further search of the area towards LoC, another AK 47 rifle with bullet marks & numerous other war like stores were also recovered. A blood trail towards LoC was also observed ” he added.
The recoveries made during the search of the area include 2-AK 74 rifles along with 4 magazines & 43 rounds; 1-Chinese Pistol with one magazine & 7 rounds; 1-claymore mine along with wires& battery; 1-SMG magazine; 1-pouch, 1-packet of Gold Cup cigarette (Pakistan made) and contraband material (for use by the terrorists).
“The Security Forces have successfully foiled a major infiltration attempt and thwarted the nefarious designs of the Western adversary to vitiate the peace in Rajouri & Poonch districts,” the Army said.
On August 21, a fidayeen-cum-guide (trained by ISI of Pakistan) Tabarak Hussain resident of Sabazkot in the PoK had led a group of 4-5 terrorists to sneak from the Nowshera sector (in Rajouri) and was captured alive (injured) by the Indian Army while the terrorists retrieved to PoK side.
Tabarak after a few days succumbs to injuries in the Army hospital at Rajouri.
On the intervening night of 22-23 August, another attempt was made by the terrorists from the same area (Lam) to sneak into the Indian side but two among them were killed in the minefields.
