DDC Chairman, DC inaugurate Senior Citizen Home namely Golden Dawn

Rajouri, Sept 20: In first of its kind initiative of the District Social Welfare Department (DSWD), a home for senior citizens, namely ‘Golden Dawn’ has been inaugurated here at Rajouri by District Development Council (DDC) Chairman Adv Naseem Liaqat in the presence of Vikas Kundal, Deputy Commissioner (DC).
Others present on the occasion include Additional SP, Vivek Shekhar; Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Imran Kataria; District Social Welfare Officer Rajouri, Wakeel Ahmed Bhat; District Information Officer Rajouri, Narinder Kumar, District Youth Coordinator Nitin Hangloo, Social Activist Vikrant Sharma, and members of the NGO were present during the occasion.
Senior Citizen Home, sponsored by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (MSJ&E), Government of India (GoI), has been handed over to the Public Peace and Development, an NGO for running the facility.
Golden Dawn will be supervised by the Department of Social Welfare.
“The building has a capacity to accommodate 50 people with double and triple-bedded rooms and attached bathrooms. It also has a dining hall, a kitchen, a reception room, a caretaker’s room, and an administrative office,” said Wakeel Ahmed Bhat, DSWO.
“Any person desirous to lodge in the facility has to apply at the Social Welfare Department along with certain documents and certificates” he added.
The Deputy Commissioner reiterated that all those elders who have been abandoned by their children due to unknown reasons can come and live in the old age home.
“We are committed to providing all homelike facilities to the inmates,” he added.
“This old age home will take care of the homeless, elderly persons,” said Naseem Liaqat.
He asked DSWO and the caretaker NGO to provide the inmates with homelike facilities so that they can lead a peaceful life.
