Rajouri, Nov 28: On Saturday in late evening hours in a bizarre incident, the lack of coordination between the civil & police administration was exposed in full public view when the police denied the entry to Deputy Commissioner (also District Magistrate) and two Additional DMs for more than one hour and the gate was opened only when Additional SP reached the spot after DM contacted him about the matter.
Reportedly the SHO was not present inside the police station at the time of the incident.
Worth mentioning and according to reliable sources the intimation about the visit to the police station by the DM was intimated at the police station well in time.
After the bizarre development unfolded in the full glare of the public and local reporters of print/electronic media, District Police office released a press briefing (at about 11.48 pm on Saturday) mentioning ‘Facts are clarified to remove misinterpretation’ (by the media).
Surprisingly, in the press note District Police Office’ has admitted that Deputy Commissioner had to wait around 20-25 minutes outside the gate locked from inside.
The press briefing reads: “DC Rajouri intended to visit the police station to review functioning & facilities in the ‘anti-human trafficking unit’ & to enquire about the welfare of policemen. However, on reaching the police station gate was found closed from inside”.
“Since the district SSP was on leave & the DIG was out of the station, he (DC) called up the Additional SP Vivek Shekhar (in-charge SSP) & informed about the matter. Since the ASP was in the field, it took around 20-25 minutes to reach & the DC had to wait till his arrival”.
Press briefing further reads: “Thereafter the officers visited the police station. The DC was also accompanied by two ADMs (Additional DMs). The DC instructed ADM & ASP to make round of the premises & take the best possible measures for the welfare of the jawans. The DC also appreciated the role of the police in counter-terror operations in the past & their continuous efforts to track the recently infiltrated group. He appreciated ASP for his people-friendly approach & professionalism”.
(Rajouri police station is a very important police station at district HQ & should have not been closed from inside. If the DC has to wait for 20-25 minutes to wait for Additional SP to open the gate then what about a common man).
As the civil administration has not come out with any official statement, it is very difficult to say the motive behind the visit of Rajesh Kumar Shavan, DC along with Sachin Dev Singh, Additional DC, and Tahir Malik, ACR to Rajouri police station in the late evening hours.
In the end, we can expect some important actions by the higher authorities in the near future in this unfortunate & rarest incident & that has brought a bad name to Rajouri district.
