Jammu, Nov 16: A man in a broad day light on Tuesday made a bid to take his own life by self immolating himself alleging that he was being denied the labour card by the office of the Assistant Labor Commissioner in Dogra Hall area here.
Police said that as per reports, a man identified as Kamal Kishore of Arnia tehsil this afternoon came out of the office of the Assistant Labor Commissioner, Dogra Hall in City’s Pacca Danga area, and set himself on fire after sprinkling kerosene upon himself.
He alleged that despite repeated requests and making rounds of the office several times, he was denied the labour card.
Police said that the victim suffered 65 percent burns and was rushed to the Government Medical College and Hospital Jammu in a critical condition.
“He reportedly was carrying the bottle filled with kerosene along and in a fit of anger, he self immolated,” police said.
A team from the Forensic Science Laboratory was pressed into service and the evidence was collected from the spot.
According to eyewitnesses, police said that those present in the office, tried to douse flames but despite their valiant efforts the man received serious burn injuries.
“He was rushed to the hospital and is being treated in the special ward,” they added. UNI
