J&K: Webinar on educationists focusing on higher education to convert innovative ideas into creativity

Jammu, Oct 21: A group of educationists have advocated for focusing on higher education to convert innovative ideas into innovative creativity while speaking during a webinar organised through virtual mode on New Education Policy by the University of Jammu, here on Thursday.
Expressing concern about not delaying the implementations of NEP 2020 further, Prof Manoj K Dhar, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu shared that the focus of higher education should be to convert innovative ideas into innovative creativity which can be used in the real life situations in future.
Prof Dhar suggested that the focus should be on action points as already one year has passed and keeping in mind the major challenges with both long term and short term challenges higher education must get into action with regard to phased implementation of NEP 2020 so that institutions of higher education can chalk out their road maps for the next generations very carefully.
Earlier Prof Naresh Padha, Dean Academic Affairs, University of Jammu welcomed the special invitees, guest speakers and other participants and set the tone for the webinar by raising certain issues related to its implementation.
Dr Ana Bali presented the theme of the webinar. Three esteemed speakers were invited to express their views in the webinar.
However, Prof Farooq Ahmed Masoodi, Dean Academic Affairs, University of Kashmir expressed the need for a multidisciplinary approach in higher education.
He talked about the liberty to be given to all stakeholders, teachers and scholars in higher education for the successful implementation of NEP 2020.
He also focussed that the researches which are conducted by the universities should be need based and should contribute to the need of the industries and cater to the needs of humankind.
Prof N Panchanatham, Vice Chancellor, Tamil Nadu Teacher Education University in his address expressed views regarding the quality of teacher education as teachers help shape many generations and need to convert humans into human resources, besides some very interesting experiences from his personal life.
He discussed the importance of the four year integrated BEd programme and how different student centric methods with multiple pedagogies should be used for the teaching-learning process.
An open discussion cum question- answer session was also conducted by Dr Ana Bali in the webinar for the participants to express their concerns.
Prof (Dr) Renu Nanda, Dean Faculty of Education and Head of the Department of Education, University of Jammu in her remarks expressed the need for taking the initiatives for the implementation of NEP 2020 as soon as possible at the higher education level and at University of Jammu itself.
