Massive crackdown on drug trafficking: As part of its aggressive anti-drug campaign, the Jammu Police registered a total of 200 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The crackdown resulted in the arrest of 300 individuals directly linked to drug peddling and trafficking. Among these, a staggering 153 First Information Reports (FIRs) were filed exclusively in connection with the highly addictive drug, heroin (commonly known as Chitta). A total of 246 individuals were apprehended in relation to heroin trafficking, underscoring the scale of the threat posed by this dangerous substance.
In line with their zero-tolerance approach to habitual offenders, Jammu Police targeted the core of drug trafficking networks. 19 notorious and hardcore drug peddlers were detained under the stringent provisions of the PIT NDPS Act, an act aimed at preventing repeat offenses by habitual offenders. Since its inception in 2013, the Police Drug De-addiction Centre has provided treatment to a total of 16,645 drug users through its outpatient services (OPD), while 1,915 individuals have received inpatient care (IPD). In 2024 alone, 1,486 patients visited the OPD, and 287 individuals received inpatient treatment, marking a significant increase in the number of people seeking help.
