Parliament urged to prioritize national issues over political speeches

Mudslinging should be avoided!

  • Call for law to curb political rhetoric in parliament and focus on national issues.

Jammu, Jul 02: In recent parliamentary sessions, the behavior of Members of Parliament (MPs) from both ruling parties and the opposition has sparked widespread concern. Instead of focusing on pressing national issues, MPs are increasingly engaging in political speeches, undermining the purpose of the legislative process. As crores of rupees are spent from the state exchequer to run the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, this misuse of time and resources has prompted calls for immediate legislative action.
Political parties have ample opportunities outside of parliamentary sessions to engage in political discourse and mudslinging. However, when the House is in session, it is imperative that MPs focus on the issues that matter most to the public. The misuse of parliamentary time for political vendettas not only defeats the purpose of these sessions but also disrespects the taxpayer money spent on them.
Citizens and political analysts alike are urging MPs to shift their focus towards critical national concerns, including:
1. Youth and Employment: Creating job opportunities and addressing the aspirations of the younger generation.
2. Right to Dignity: Ensuring that every citizen is treated with respect and has access to basic rights.
3. Future of the Country: Planning and implementing policies that secure a prosperous future for the nation.
4. Education: Improving the quality and accessibility of education for all.
5. Poverty Alleviation: Formulating effective strategies to elevate people out of poverty.
6. National Integrity: Promoting unity and a sense of common purpose among all citizens.
7. Economic Improvement: Developing policies that enhance the nation’s economic standards and ensure sustainable growth.
8. Scientific Temperament: Encouraging scientific research and innovation.
9. Healthcare: Strengthening healthcare infrastructure and services.
10. Defence: Bolstering the nation’s defense capabilities.
11. Connectivity: Improving connectivity across the country to ensure accessibility and growth.
12. Peace and Security: Addressing both internal and external security challenges to maintain peace.
To ensure that the true purpose of parliamentary sessions is achieved, there is an urgent need for legislation that curtails frivolous political discussions in Parliament. Such a law would mandate that MPs focus on substantive debates and deliberations that address the country’s critical issues. By doing so, the legislative process would better serve the public interest, ensuring that the significant expenditure on running Parliament is justified and productive.
The call for a more disciplined and issue-focused Parliament underscores the need for MPs to rise above partisan politics and work collaboratively for the nation’s benefit. Only then can the voices and concerns of the people be adequately represented and addressed in the halls of Parliament.
