COAS Gen Dwivedi visited Poonch to review Operational Preparedness along LoC

Rajouri/Poonch, July 3: Within four days of assuming charge as the 30th Chief of the Indian Army, General Upendra Dwivedi during his maiden visit to J&K conducted a detailed review of the security situation along the Line of Control in Poonch district.
He was accompanied by GOC-in-Chief Northern Command, Lt Gen M V Suchindra; GOC 16 Corps, Lt-General Navin Sachdeva; and GOC 25 Infantry Division, Maj Gen Gourav Rishi.
Army Chief, General Upendra Dwivedi conducted a detailed review of the security situation along the Line of Control (LoC).
General Dwivedi also held a high-level discussion with officers stationed in the region (J&K) and addressed the prevailing security situation and reviewed the measures taken to ensure the safety and security of the border areas.
The Army Chief instructed the officers to maintain heightened state of alertness, especially given the strategic importance of the Line of Control (LoC).
“We must utilise every available technological resource to enhance our monitoring capabilities and ensure that our border remains secure” said Gen Upendra Dwivedi.
Gen Dwivedi also visited the forward locations in Poonch district and reviewed the security situation along the LoC.
Additional Directorate General of Public Information (ADG PI) Indian Army in a post on ‘X’ said: “General Upendra Dwivedi, COAS along with Army Commander Northern Command visited the forward locations of White Knight Corps & reviewed the security situation along the LoC. COAS was briefed on the operational preparedness by the Commanders on ground. COAS lauded all ranks for maintaining high standards of professionalism & exhorted them to remain steadfast to meet all current & emerging security challenges”.
The maiden visit of General Dwivedi to Poonch after assuming charge of Army Chief holds importance due to ongoing Shri Amarnath Yatra and forthcoming Shri Buddha Amarnath Yatra to Mandi in Poonch district, both major Hindu pilgrimages.
Recent terror attacks on Indian Air Force and Army convoys in Poonch district and terror attack on a pilgrim’s bus in Reasi district (terrorists from Rajouri-Poonch were involved in the attack) were among other reasons for COAS visit.
General Upendra Dwivedi during his visit to Poonch also met with ex-servicemen at 93 Brigade HQ at Poonch.
A ADG PI -Indian Army post on ‘X’ read: “General Upendra Dwivedi COAS interacted with the parents of Braveharts of Poonch region who laid down their lives in the service of the Nation. COAS also met the Veterans & assured them of unwavering support from India Army ”.
“He (COAS) also interacted with officials of J&K Police & prominent civil dignitaries and appreciated their synergy & cooperation with the Indian Army in maintaining peace & harmony in the region” read the post.
Pertinently, General Dwivedi previously served as the GOC-in-Chief of the Northern Command from 2022 to 2024 & his interactions and security situation reviews highlight the strategic importance of the region and the commitment of the Indian Army to safeguarding national interests.
