Rajouri, Nov 7: In a bid to felicitate recognition of Rajouri on the National Marathon Circuit under the ‘Fit India’ movement, Ace of Spades Division on Sunday organised ‘Rajouri Marathon-21’.
The marathon started and culminated at Advance Landing Ground (ALG) of the Indian Army in which approximately 1200 civilians from all walks of life and defence personnel actively participated in this popular marathon.
An Army officer informed that the marathon was organised in three distance categories of 15 kilometers, 10 kilometers & 5 kilometers with various categories as per their age groups.
More than 200 enthusiast ladies and girls also participated in this marathon, the officer said.
The event at ALG started with warm-up Zumba by Rahul & his team followed by flag-off. This was followed by a scintillating cultural programme comprising of Jazz Band performance, Bhangra, Khukri dance, Gatka Martial art, Lezim dance, Dog Show, & exhibition of Martial arts which made the event an electrifying success.
51 Prizes worth Rupees four lacs were awarded to the winners under various categories. All participants were assured of a digital certificate of participation and a ‘Finisher Medal’.
“The aim of this marathon was to spread awareness of the importance of physical fitness and endurance and to foster a spirit of adventure, camaraderie, and brotherhood,” said a senior officer of the Division.
The event reinforced the Indian Army’s continued commitment to the people of Jammu & Kashmir by bringing it on the National marathon circuit.
The event was graced by Maj Gen Rajeev Puri, General Officer Commanding (GOC), Ace of Spades Division; Brig Rahul Thapliyal Commander, Ace of Spades Artillery Brigade; Dhirendra Singh Sindhu, DIG BSF Rajouri, and other prominent Military and Civil dignitaries.
