Massive drug smuggling bid foiled; heroin worth Rs. 62 cr seized in twin operations

JAMMU, JUNE 12: In a major offensive against narcotics trafficking, Bahu Fort Police achieved a significant breakthrough by seizing over 626 grams of heroin in two separate operations, recovering contraband estimated to be worth more than ?62 crore in the international market.
The back-to-back recoveries, made by teams of Police Station Bahu Fort and Police Post Narwal led by SHO Bahu Fort Inspector Sushil Choudhary under the supervision of SDPO East Sachit Sharma and SSP Jammu Joginder Singh, resulted in the arrest of three alleged drug traffickers and have opened new leads into a suspected inter-district drug supply chain operating across Jammu and Kashmir.
The first operation was carried out during night checking at Narwal, where police intercepted a Hyundai i20 and recovered 309.78 grams of heroin-like substance from Mushtaq Ahmed Sheikh of Bijbehara, Anantnag.
A case under the NDPS Act was immediately registered at Police Station Bahu Fort and further investigation initiated.
In another operation near Wave Mall, Jammu, police intercepted a car coming from the Transport Yard area and recovered 307 grams of heroin-like substance from driver Parvaiz Ahmed of Baramulla.
An additional 20 grams of heroin-like substance along with a digital weighing machine was recovered from co-passenger Nasir Ahmed of Baramulla.
With the cumulative recovery crossing 626 grams of heroin, investigators believe the seized consignment was intended for large-scale distribution.
Based on prevailing international estimates, the recovered heroin is valued at over ?62 crore, underlining the scale of the narcotics operation thwarted by police.
Police sources said the recoveries point towards an organized trafficking network, and efforts are underway to identify suppliers, financiers, handlers and potential receivers connected to the racket.
The successful operations form part of Bahu Fort Police’s intensified campaign against narcotics, which has seen increased surveillance, intelligence-driven raids and sustained naka checking across vulnerable routes.
Officials described the seizures as a major setback to drug syndicates attempting to expand their footprint in the region and reiterated that the fight against drugs would continue with full force.
The twin busts not only prevented a substantial quantity of heroin from reaching the market but also struck at the financial backbone of those involved in the illegal narcotics trade, reinforcing Jammu Police’s resolve to make the region drug-free.
