Army Destroys 2-kg IED Dropped by Pakistani Drone in Poonch

IED, AK Rifle Ammunition and 1 kg Narcotics Recovered

The Engineering Wing of the Indian Army on Thursday safely neutralised a 2-kg Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Poonch district through a controlled explosion.

The IED, along with 70 rounds of AK-47 ammunition and approximately one kilogram of narcotic substance, was reportedly dropped by a Pakistani drone along the Line of Control (LoC) in Rangar Nallah near Khari Sokar village of the Gulpur sector in Poonch district during the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday.

In the morning, the PRO Defence Jammu said in a statement: “A suspected packet has been found near the LoC in Poonch. A detailed search is in progress. Details are being ascertained and will be shared as facts are established.”

Sources said the Pakistani drone had violated Indian airspace and dropped the packet in the area of responsibility of the Madras Regiment, from where it was later recovered.

Following the recovery, security forces sanitised the entire area to ensure that no additional packages had been dropped. The IED was subsequently destroyed safely in a controlled explosion near the riverbank, underscoring the Indian Army’s preparedness and expertise in dealing with such threats.
