President confers 36 Gallantry Awards: Five J&K Police officers honoured for valour

SP Mohan Lal Honoured with Gallantry Award for Exceptional Bravery in Counter-Terrorism Operations

Jammu, July 5: Superintendent of Police (SP) Mohan Lal of the Jammu and Kashmir Police has been conferred a prestigious gallantry award by the President of India, recognizing his outstanding courage and leadership in counter-terrorism operations.
SP Lal, a distinguished officer with a remarkable track record in combating terrorism, has led numerous successful operations, displaying unwavering bravery and a steadfast commitment to duty. His exceptional valour was particularly evident during a critical operation in Srinagar in June 2022.
Facing a dangerous situation and an imminent threat to his team, SP Lal, demonstrating extraordinary courage and an indomitable spirit, left the safety of his cover and bravely advanced towards the terrorists. He successfully neutralized one terrorist and, sensing further danger, fearlessly engaged another terrorist in a close-quarter combat, ultimately neutralizing the threat.
SP Lal’s courageous actions exemplify the dedication and selflessness of the Jammu and Kashmir Police force in safeguarding the region’s security. His gallantry award is a testament to his commitment to protecting the lives of his fellow officers and the citizens of Jammu and Kashmir.
Alongside SP Lal, four other J&K Police officers were also honoured with gallantry awards for their exceptional bravery and contributions to counter-terrorism efforts.
Selection Grade Constable Saifullah Qadri, a renowned encounter specialist, was posthumously awarded the Shaurya Chakra. His courageous actions in numerous gun battles, particularly his exemplary bravery during the Bhishember Nagar operation in Srinagar, earned him this honour. His sacrifice continues to inspire his colleagues and the community he served.
Sub-Inspector Amit Raina received the Shaurya Chakra for his significant contributions to counter-terrorism operations. During a January 2022 operation in Srinagar, he fearlessly left his cover and, in a direct confrontation, neutralized a category ‘A’ terrorist, demonstrating extraordinary courage in the face of danger.
Sub-Inspector Faroz Ahmad Dar was awarded the Shaurya Chakra for his exceptional courage and effectiveness in critical security situations. During a January 2022 operation in Srinagar, he bravely led the charge in eliminating a terrorist while prioritizing the safety and security of civilians.
Constable Varun Singh received the Shaurya Chakra for his unwavering commitment and bravery in crucial operations. He consistently put himself in harm’s way to protect others, displaying remarkable grit and determination in challenging situations. His courageous actions led to the elimination of a category ‘A’ terrorist and the recovery of arms and ammunition.
The President of India conferred a total of 36 gallantry awards, including 10 Kirti Chakras and 26 Shaurya Chakras, recognizing the outstanding bravery and sacrifice of individuals in service. These awards, including 14 posthumous honors, highlight the unwavering commitment and courage of those who have gone above and beyond the call of duty, serving as an inspiration to the nation.
