Suicide or Murder: Man dies due to critical burn injuries in Rajouri, one arrested

Rajouri, August 28: In the late evening hours on Sunday evening in a tragic & unfortunate incident, a person, namely Sain Das succumbed to critical burn injuries in his native village Dassal of Rajouri Municipal Council.
Relatives & family members of the deceased alleged that it was a murder being committed by close relatives with whom the deceased’s family is having a land dispute.
On the other hand, Rajouri police in a press briefing claimed that Sain Dass has committed suicide by pouring petrol on himself as there was an old dispute over land between Sain Dass and his neighbour (also a close relative) Pawan Kumar s/o Shiv Kumar.
Family members, relatives, and the Sarpanch of Dassal claimed said that Sain Dass, who was a Pujari in a local temple, after performing routine Aarti was on his way home when the opposite party sprinkled petrol/kerosene oil on him and killed him.
But the Rajouri police again claimed that Sain Dass was not a Pujari of any temple and said: “It is further clarified that deceased Sh. Sain Dass was not a Pujari of any temple as reported and hence this statement is rebutted”.
The general public is advised not to pay heed to baseless statements, the police added.
The police further said that a case under sections 306 (Abetment of suicide), & 109 ( Whoever abets any offence) IPC (FIR No. 410-2023) has been registered in Rajouri police station in this matter and the accused Pawan Kumar has been arrested.
Police have also assured the family members/people–who held a protest and alleged police are saving the accused involved in the murder—that a fair and in-depth probe into the matter and action as per the law of the land is being ensured.
