Jammu, Aug 28: In the backdrop of instructions pasted on the wall by a private school directing students/ faculty to “Avoid Speaking In Dogri”, the Dogri Sanstha Jammu on Monday warned legal action for “disrespecting Dogri” language.
The school however, after facing criticism and trolling on the social media, admitted the fault and replaced the poster mentioning, “Preference Will Be Given To Dogri Language”.
Taking notice of the same, the president Dogri Sanstha, Jammu, Prof. Lalit Magotra in a letter addressed to the Principal of the private school in Akhnoor stated that it has been brought to their notice that they (school authorities) have prohibited school students to converse in Dogri and have also put up a notice to this effect in the school.
“You may please note that this action of yours is not only morally incorrect but is also against the spirit of the Constitution of India, which provides for primary education of every child in his/her mother tongue, ” Prof Magotra said in a letter.
He added further, “being situated in an area which is Dogra region, your action does not only mean insulting the mother tongue of the Dogras but it also hurts the feeling of the people, who finance your school by paying the fee of their children admitted in your school.”
Please respond as to why the Dogri Sanstha Jammu should not approach the Court to initial proceedings against the school authorities for acting against the Constitution of the country, he addressed in a letter.
“Dogri Sanstha, Jammu also plans to start a campaign to advise the local residents to boycott your institution. In the meantime, we expect that you will take corrective measures in the matter and also introduce Dogri as a subject in your School,” he added. UNI
