Jammu, Aug 4: Putting his life in risk, the District Mining Officer, Jammu & Samba district Mohammed Sayeed along with one guard in late hours have conducted surprised raid on the violators at 10.30 pm at Jammu-Suriansar-Mansar road to nab the violators. The efforts put by the DMO to nab the violators were very accurate but there are reports that violators have got the information about the raid and they managed to flee from the scene.
The DMO Mohammed Sayeed has taken the job as a challenge and so always he is on action mode to nab the violators. The problem is that the department has not sufficient man power and a few employees are there in the office of DMO.
In the today raid conducted by the DMO Mohammed Sayeed the delay was caused on the part of concern police, reason better known to them and the delay in action has given opportunity to the violators to flee from the scene.
But the DMO has worked a lot and seized a record breaking vehicles involved in illegal mining. He has seized 268 vehicles in four months which is biggest record. He round the clock works to contain the illegal mining but the shortage of manpower and sometime delayed cooperation by the police department has deflated his mission.
Whereas, Deputy Commissioner Jammu Avny Lavasa chaired a meeting of the Multi Department Task Force Committee constituted to deal with the menace of illegal mining.
ADC L&O, Minga Sherpa; ACR, Vijay Kumar; DMO, Mohammad Sayeed, DFO, SDMs, Tehsildars were present in the meeting.
The DMO informed the meeting that over Rs 8.91 crore revenue was generated in the year 2021-22, while 650 vehicles were seized and Rs 3.8 crore fine was recovered as penalty from the perpetrators.
He further informed the meeting that the department generated Rs 4.64 crore revenue, seized 268 vehicles and recovered Rs 2.26 crore as fine in four months of the current financial year.
The Deputy Commissioner asked the DMO to rationalize existing rates of minor minerals and prevent illegal mining by taking strict enforcement measures.
She asked the concerned officers to ensure availability of minerals at reasonable rates to people and the Government agencies for speedy development.
The establishment of check nakas at all potential entry points was also stressed upon to check illegal mining.
She asked the concerned officers to take strict action against the perpetrators of illegal mining and bring them to the book.
The Deputy Commissioner emphasized on zero tolerance against illegal mining asked for conducting surprise visits at all vulnerable points.
The DC also asked to conduct an environmental audit of the existing blocks, with special focus on the Tawi river belt.
Meanwhile, in a quest to stern the menace of illegal mining, a multi-pronged strategy was devised by Jammu Police in which police teams of PS Arnia, PS Miran Sahib, PS Gharota, PP Phallian Mandal, PP Manwal and BPP Jogwan acted stringently on the specific inputs and raided at different locations in their respective areas and seized 08 different vehicles involved in illegal mining. Details of the vehicles seized are as- One Tractor Trolley without Registration No seized by PS Miran Sahib. The PS Arnia has seized two Tractor Trolley without Registration No and PS Gharota has seized one tipper bearing Registration No JK02CU 7891.
In another seizures, 2 vehicles including one Tractor Trolley bearing Chasis No.GZCDS844980S3 and one tractor trolley bearing Registration No JK02CW 1712, seized by PP Phallian Mandal and PP Manwal also seized one Dumper bearing Registration No.JK21H-4700. One tractor without Registration No by BPP Jogwan
The recoveries were made by SHO PS Miran Sahib Inspr Zaheer Mushtaq, SHO PS Arnia Inspr Devinder Singh, SHO PS Gharota Inspr Rajesh Khajuria, I/C PP Phallian Mandal PSI Ajesh Singh Jamwal, I/C PP Manwal PSI Ayub Khan and I/C BPP Jogwan PSI Kapil Singh Wazir in their respective jurisdictions.
The mining was done in violation of order of Hon’ble High Court of J&k. In order to strictly implement the drive against illegal mining and to tighten noose against the violators of the law Jammu Police has initiated strict action.
