ARTO Rajouri suspend route permits of 10 vehicle for overcharging passengers

Rajouri, Nov 11:  In a special drive launched after complaints of overcharging passengers, Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO)  has suspended route permits of the ten Tempo Travelers (passenger vehicles) for two months.

The special drive was conducted under the direction of Rajesh Kumar Shavan, Deputy Commissioner who has received several complaints from the passengers about overcharging by the Tempo Travelers.

“Special drive was launched on Thursday at various routes by the checking squad of the Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) headed by Shami Kumar Sharma, ARTO, and found that passengers were overcharged which is a serious offence under MVA norms,” said an official.

Taking the matter seriously, ARTO has suspended the route permits of 10 Tempos for two months, the official added.

Shami Kumar, ARTO has made it clear that such drives shall continue in the near future to keep a check on overcharging, overloading and other traffic offences and strict action as per MVA norms would be initiated against the violators.

He also appealed to the public to follow traffic norms in letter and spirit. “Using mobile phones while traveling, stunting, use of beam lights during night, non-use of seat belt, etc are other common offences under MVA norms & can be avoided easily,” said ARTO.

The ARTO also urged the drivers to be mindful of duties and responsibilities while driving.
