Lucknow/Jammu, Mar 25: A media delegation from Jammu & Kashmir on Wednesday gained first-hand insight into the achievements and innovations of the Uttar Pradesh Khadi and Village Industries sector during an official visit to Lucknow. The visit was facilitated through coordinated efforts between the Press Information Bureau (PIB) units of Lucknow and Jammu.

He provided a comprehensive overview of the Board’s initiatives, highlighting its transformative role in strengthening the rural economy of the state.
Mr. Shishir emphasized that the Uttar Pradesh Khadi and Village Industries Board is poised to play a pivotal role in achieving the state’s ambitious goal of becoming a $1 trillion economy. He noted that since its inception, the Board has consistently contributed to rural economic development by empowering artisans, weavers, and small entrepreneurs.
Highlighting the evolution of khadi, he remarked that modern branding and innovative marketing strategies have redefined it beyond a mere fabric, positioning it as a symbol of self-reliance and sustainable livelihoods. He further added that direct market linkages provided to rural artisans have significantly improved their income levels and strengthened khadi’s presence in global markets.

Building on this success, the state is now set to introduce the ‘One District, One Product’ (ODOP) programme, aimed at promoting traditional culinary heritage and creating new economic opportunities for local communities. He added that there are many districts having multiple products in the market.
On the subject of employment generation, he highlighted that the ‘Mukhyamantri Yuva Swarozgar Yojana’ has empowered lakhs of youth by facilitating self-employment opportunities. Additionally, under the ‘Vishwakarma Shram Samman Yojana’, traditional artisans are being equipped with modern toolkits and training, leading to enhanced productivity and increased income.
