Jammu, Nov 15: In a press briefing today, SSP Jammu Joginder Singh, JKPS, announced a series of significant breakthroughs achieved by Jammu district Police, including the rapid resolution of a murder case, the arrest of officials linked to a tragic burning incident, a multi-crore cyber fraud recovery, and a major narcotics seizure.
Opening the briefing, the SSP stated that Jammu Police had solved multiple complex cases-some appearing “blind” at the outset-through prompt action and scientific investigation.
Murder Case Solved Within Hours in Kanachak: The SSP revealed that a violent land dispute in Gurha Singhu, Tehsil Marh, turned fatal on 14 November 2025, claiming the life of Vikram Singh S/O Jhandar Singh and injuring his wife, Smt. Vaishno Devi.
According to the investigation, an argument over family land escalated when the accused, Ranjeet Singh, allegedly drove a tractor into the field and deliberately ran over both victims before fleeing.
The couple was rushed to the hospital where Vikram Singh succumbed to his injuries. His wife remains under treatment.
FIR No. 165/2025 was registered at Police Station Kanachak, and the accused-along with the tractor used in the crime-was arrested within hours. The SSP said further investigation is underway to uncover the complete motive.
Three Irrigation Officials Arrested in Miran Sahib Burning Case: The SSP then addressed the 10 November 2025 incident in which Puran Chand (55) of R.S. Pura, a helper in the Irrigation Department, was found burning in fields near Prithvipur, Ring Road.
A police team led by the SHO Miran Sahib extinguished the flames with civilian help and shifted the severely injured man to GMC Jammu, where he later died.
FIR No. 109/2025 was registered and a detailed investigation began.
FSL experts inspected the scene, while police collected CCTV footage tracing the deceased’s movements. The footage showed him purchasing petrol in a plastic can from RG Filling Station, Thikrian shortly before the incident.
Based on circumstantial, technical, and scientific evidence, including witness statements and viral videos, investigators concluded that the deceased had been under severe mental harassment-including non-payment of salary for months-allegedly by senior officials in his department.
Three officers of the Irrigation Department have been arrested so far – 1) Surjeet Kumar, Incharge Ziladar; 2) Girdhari Lal, Amin; and 3) Ram Murti @ Sani, Incharge Ziladar. Whereas further investigation continues.
?2.27 Crore Cyber Fraud Busted; Money Recovered: The SSP further announced a major cyber-crime breakthrough. Jammu (Rural) Police recovered ?2,27,45,264, siphoned off through fraudulent trading activities on the ICICI Securities platform.
The case originated from a complaint lodged on 10 April 2025 by Khalid Hassan, who reported that his brother’s investment funds-over ?2 crore including a fresh ?54 lakh loan-had been fraudulently withdrawn.
Following registration of the cyber complaint through the National Cyber Crime Helpline 1930, police analysed victim and suspect bank statements, KYC documents, and transaction trails. Multiple fraudulent accounts were traced and promptly frozen.
Through court orders, the entire misappropriated amount was successfully remitted back to the complainant.
So far, 13 suspects have been identified, with FIR No. 214/2025 registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 66-D IT Act. Multiple teams have been dispatched to states across India to apprehend the accused.
The SSP cautioned the public against online schemes promising unusually high returns.
Major Heroin Seizure in Gandhi Nagar; Drug Network Hit: He further briefed that Jammu Police remain committed to dismantling both retail and commercial narcotics networks.
During routine checking near Shamshan Ghat, Shastri Nagar, a patrol team led by SDPO South and SHO Gandhi Nagar intercepted two suspects and recovered 3 kg 260 grams of heroin (including packing)-a substantial commercial quantity.
A case, FIR No. 249/2025, stands registered under the NDPS Act and Section 111 BNS. Investigation is ongoing to map the wider drug supply chain.
The SSP appealed to civil society to join hands with police in the collective fight against narco-terrorism.
