Rajouri, November 15: Police averted a major tragedy after recovering and safely defusing an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in a forest area under the jurisdiction of Thanamandi Police Station in Rajouri district.
According to police sources, acting on a specific input, a joint team of the police and the Army launched a search operation in the dense forests of Bhangai in Thanamandi. During the operation, the teams found an IED planted near an old, abandoned mud house deep inside the forest.
The Army’s bomb disposal squad was immediately called to the spot. With utmost caution, the squad successfully neutralized the IED in a controlled explosion. However, the mud house suffered significant damage during the operation.
Security forces cordoned off the entire area and launched an intensive search to trace the terrorists who had planted the explosive. Though no terrorist has been arrested so far, the cordon and search operation continued till late evening.
Meanwhile, police have urged the public to remain vigilant. People have been advised to immediately inform the police or the Army if they spot any suspicious person or unknown object, and to avoid touching anything unfamiliar.
