Jammu South Police Cracks Bovine Theft Case in Record Time; Five Stolen Animals Recovered

Jammu, Oct 06: In a swift and commendable operation, the South Zone Jammu Police, under the able leadership of Superintendent of Police (SP) South Jammu Ajay Sharma JKPS, successfully cracked a bovine theft case within hours of the incident being reported. The operation, carried out by Police Post Bathindi, led to the arrest of a bovine lifter and the recovery of all five stolen animals, reinforcing public trust in the swift response and effectiveness of Jammu Police.
The case unfolded on October 3, 2025, when a complaint was lodged at Police Post Bathindi regarding the theft of five bovine animals from the complainant’s residence. Responding immediately, a case FIR No. 290/2025 under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered at Police Station Bahu Fort.
Launching a prompt investigation, the dedicated team from PP Bathindi, guided by senior officers, intensified patrolling and intelligence gathering. During the intervening night of October 3 and 4, alert personnel intercepted a suspicious vehicle bearing registration number JK02DL 1094 in the Nowabad Sunjwan area. Upon inspection, the vehicle was found to be illegally transporting five bovine animals, cruelly tied and without any valid documentation or transport permits.
The driver of the vehicle was apprehended on the spot, and subsequent identification by the complainant confirmed the animals were indeed the stolen ones. The recovered bovines were later returned to their rightful owner on supurdnama, ensuring justice was served promptly.
The operation has drawn widespread appreciation for the SP South Jammu Ajay Sharma JKPS and his committed team, whose vigilance, coordination, and rapid response prevented the animals from being smuggled further and disrupted a potential link in an illegal transportation racket. Their dedication reflects the growing efficiency and sensitivity of Jammu Police towards both public grievances and animal welfare.
A police spokesperson confirmed that further investigation is ongoing to trace the involvement of other individuals connected to the theft and illegal transport network.
