Lakhanpur Police Arrest Drug Peddler, Seize Over 8 Grams of Heroin-Like Substance

Kathua, Sept 27: In a commendable move in the ongoing battle against drug trafficking, the Kathua District Police, under the exemplary leadership and vigilant supervision of SSP Shobhit Saksena, has successfully arrested a drug peddler and recovered a significant quantity of heroin-like substance. This operation was carried out in the jurisdiction of Police Station Lakhanpur and underscores the district police’s unwavering commitment to eradicating narcotics from the region.
On the morning of September 27, 2025, intelligence from reliable sources alerted the police about a suspect named Chetan, son of Govind Dass, a resident of Sherpur in Tehsil and District Pathankot, Punjab. It was reported that Chetan was travelling on foot from Punjab towards Kathua, passing through Lakhanpur.
Acting promptly on this critical information, the dedicated police team of Lakhanpur laid an effective naka (checkpoint) at Bypass Road near Shamshan Ghat, Lakhanpur. The operation was meticulously coordinated under the guidance of Additional SP Kathua Rahul Charak (JKPS), DySP DAR Kathua Ritesh Sambyal, and SHO PS Lakhanpur Tariq Ahmed.
During the naka checking, the police team successfully apprehended Chetan and recovered 8.28 grams of a heroin-like substance concealed in his possession. This seizure is a significant blow to the drug smuggling network operating across the border and within the district.
Following the arrest, a formal case was registered under FIR No. 115/2025, invoking sections 8/21/22 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The investigation is ongoing, with the police committed to unraveling the entire drug supply chain and bringing all culprits to justice.
