Ongoing Operation: Poonch Police Bust Hizbul Module; 3 Held, 7 AK Rifles Seized

Shyam Sood
Rajouri, Sept 14: In a major breakthrough against terrorism, Poonch police on Sunday busted a Hizbul Mujahideen module, arrested one terrorist, and recovered three AK rifles along with magazines and ammunition from the Sabjian area of Mandi tehsil.
This comes in continuation of an earlier operation on August 31, when two terrorists were arrested and two AK rifles with ammunition were seized. With the latest recovery, the police have so far arrested three terrorists and recovered seven AK rifles, 16 magazines, and a large quantity of ammunition.
What has alarmed security agencies is that all three arrested men were working as porters with the Indian Army in highly sensitive forward areas along the Line of Control in Sabjian, Poonch district.
Police said the fresh recovery was made from a forward location ahead of the fence, as some villages in the sector are situated ahead of the LoC fence. The arrested terrorist has been identified as Shafi, a resident of one such village.
Earlier, the Special Operations Group (SOG) had arrested Tariq Sheikh of Jallian and Riyaz Ahmed of Chamer-both army porters-during a raid at a rented accommodation in Azmtabad village, acting on specific intelligence inputs. Two AK rifles and ammunition were recovered from the hideout, and on sustained interrogation, two more AK rifles with magazines were recovered.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Jammu, Bhim Sen Tuti, in a post on X, praised the “fantastic investigation” by J&K Police, commending the perseverance and “dogged determination” of the team which led to the arrest of three terror sympathisers and recovery of seven AK rifles and other warlike stores.
