Rajouri, July 5: Five patients from the Dhar Sakri area were discharged on Saturday from the Associated Hospital Government Medical College (AH GMC) Rajouri, while nine others remain under treatment and are reported to be in stable condition.
This was confirmed by Dr. Shamim Choudhry, Medical Superintendent of AH GMC Rajouri, who also stated, “No new patient has been admitted to the hospital after 7 PM on July 4.”
He added that of the 62 patients admitted to GMC Rajouri so far, five were referred to GMC Jammu for specialised treatment. One of the referred patients, an elderly woman, later died in Jammu.
In response to the suspected outbreak of waterborne disease, Director of Health Services Jammu (DHSJ) Dr. Abdul Hamid Zargar recently visited Dhar Sakri village to assess the situation. During the visit, he interacted with affected individuals and engaged with the residents to understand the on-ground challenges.
He was accompanied by Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Rajouri, Dr. M.L. Rana, and Block Medical Officer (BMO) Kandi. Dr. Zargar directed local health authorities to maintain strict surveillance and ensure that all necessary measures are implemented to contain the spread of the illness.
The director also visited CHC Kandi, where he inspected various hospital departments and interacted with patients in the wards. He reassured them that the Health Department is fully committed to safeguarding public health and is actively managing the situation.
Over the past 20 days, a total of 62 patients exhibiting symptoms ranging from mild to severe gastroenteritis have been admitted to AH GMC Rajouri. Of these:48 have been discharged, 5 were referred to GMC Jammu (with one death reported), 9 are currently under treatment, and 6 patients left the hospital Against Medical Advice (LAMA).
