Jammu: Acting on a tip-off from reliable sources, a joint team comprising the Naib Tehsildar Aghore and police personnel from Police Station Gharota conducted a surprise visit to village Nargara and unearthed a case of illegal tree felling and transportation.
During the operation, a truck bearing registration number JK02BJ-6895 was found loaded with cut pieces of Peepal (Badh) and Khair wood, suspected to be prepared for illegal transportation. On spotting the police party, the driver of the truck managed to flee the scene, taking advantage of the nearby forest cover.
The vehicle was seized on the spot, and after completing all legal formalities, it was brought to Police Station Gharota along with the seized wood. The Forest Department has been informed for further legal proceedings under the Forest Act. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to protecting forest resources and warned that strict action will be taken against those involved in illegal tree felling and smuggling of forest produce.
