CMO Poonch Demands Answers, Seeks Explanation from Medical Superintendent Over Dialysis Unit Disruptions

  • The dialysis unit at Poonch District Hospital is facing repeated disruptions due to frequent breakdowns of the RO system, forcing patients to seek treatment at private centres.
  • CMO Poonch, Dr. Parvaiz Ahmed Khan, has taken serious note of the situation and issued a letter to Medical Superintendent Raja Sukhdev Singh, demanding an explanation for the unit’s non-functionality and the lack of proper maintenance.
  • The CMO’s visit to the dialysis unit revealed that the RO plant malfunctioned due to irregular water supply, lack of proper dusting of the machines, and the plumber’s negligence in maintaining the RO plant.
  •  The repeated RO failures, coupled with the lack of maintenance and reporting, raise suspicions of possible collusion with private labs, prompting calls for a thorough investigation by the District Commissioner to ensure accountability and the restoration of essential dialysis services at the hospital.

Poonch, November 19: The dialysis unit at Poonch District Hospital is facing severe disruptions due to the repeated failure of its RO system, forcing patients to seek treatment elsewhere and raising concerns about potential collusion with private dialysis centers. Sources reveal that the RO system has malfunctioned multiple times within a single month, jeopardizing the health and well-being of patients reliant on this critical service.
The issue came to light after a news item circulated on social media on November 18, 2024, highlighting the non-functionality of the dialysis unit. This prompted the Vice Chairman of the District Health Society and Chief Medical Officer Poonch, Dr. Parvaiz Ahmed Khan, to issue a strongly worded letter (No: CMO/P/ACTT/830-833) to Medical Superintendent Raja Sukhdev Singh on November 19, 2024, demanding an explanation.
Dr. Khan’s letter reveals that during his visit to the dialysis unit on November 19 at 10:00 AM, he found the RO plant malfunctioning due to irregular water supply. He further observed that the plumber was not consistently providing water to the RO plant, damaging its membrane. Adding to the concerns, the dialysis machines were covered in dust, indicating a lack of proper maintenance by the Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS).
The CMO’s letter underscores the criticality of the dialysis service in the district and questions why the Medical Superintendent failed to inform his office about the unit’s non-functionality since November 15, 2024. The letter directs the Medical Superintendent to explain his position, immediately depute an MTS for cleaning the dialysis unit, and provide daily updates on the status of all sections of the District Hospital.
The repeated failures of the RO system, coupled with the lack of maintenance and the Medical Superintendent’s failure to report the issues, raise suspicions of a deliberate attempt to sabotage the dialysis unit and drive patients towards private facilities. The financial burden and inconvenience imposed on patients seeking dialysis elsewhere, often at considerable cost, raise serious ethical and administrative questions.
The matter has been brought to the attention of the District Commissioner, who is known for his integrity and commitment to public service. Citizens hope that a thorough and impartial investigation will be conducted to determine the cause of the RO system’s repeated failures, address the alleged negligence, and ensure that the dialysis unit at Poonch District Hospital functions effectively, providing critical healthcare services to the community without disruption.
