Udhampur, Oct 21: Udhampur Police, under the astute leadership of SSP Udhampur Amod Nagpure, IPS, have dealt a major blow to the drug trafficking network operating in the region. In a meticulously planned operation at the Motorshed Naka Point in Chenani, a police team from Chenani Police Station intercepted a Maruti car bearing registration number JK13B-1343 and seized a massive haul of 700 grams of heroin, estimated to be worth Rs 6 crore in the illicit market.
The operation, led by SHO Jaswinder Singh, was part of the district police’s ongoing campaign against drug trafficking. During a routine vehicle check, the Maruti car, traveling from Kashmir towards Jammu, was signalled to stop. Upon searching the vehicle, the police team uncovered 700 grams of a heroin-like substance concealed within.
The individual transporting the contraband was immediately apprehended and identified as Ashraf, son of Abdul Rashid, a resident of Gund Tankipura in Kulgam district. He is believed to be a hardcore Narco smuggler involved in the transportation of drugs from Kashmir to other parts of the country.
A case under FIR No. 163/2024 has been registered at Chenani Police Station, invoking sections 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act. The investigation is currently underway, with Udhampur Police focusing on uncovering both forward and backward linkages to identify and apprehend all individuals involved in this illegal drug trade.
SSP Amod Nagpure commended the efforts of SHO Jaswinder Singh and the entire Chenani Police team for their vigilance and professionalism in executing this successful operation.
