Jammu, Sep 20: In a fervent display of political ambition, Haji Shak Mohammed, the dynamic Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) candidate contesting the assembly elections from Nagrota constituency, embarked on an extensive village tour today, engaging with constituents and addressing multiple election meetings late into the night too. His campaign emphasized a vision of progress for marginalized communities, particularly Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Castes, and other backward classes, alongside the impoverished and downtrodden residents of Nagrota.
During a series of impassioned addresses in areas including Shubtra, Dansal, Palli, and Gha Pota, Haji Shak Mohammed criticized the National Conference (NC) under Dr. Farooq Abdullah for what he described as a long history of exploiting the people of Nagrota. He asserted that the NC has consistently sidelined the constituency, treating it as a secondary priority rather than addressing the pressing needs of its constituents. He urged the people to vote en-masse for the BSP to ensure a decisive victory with a substantial margin.
Accompanied by notable senior party leaders, including Mohan Lal Digra, Sham Lal, Charan Dass and Abdul Gani Aftab, Haji’s campaign was marked by a call for accountability from the NC leadership. He directed pointed allegations at Dr. Abdullah regarding the controversial abrogation of Article 370, suggesting that the NC leader bears significant responsibility for the loss of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status. He claimed that just days before the pivotal decision on August 5, 2019, Dr. Abdullah and his son Omar met with the Prime Minister, urging the former chief minister to disclose the contents of their discussions to the public.
Haji Shak Mohammed further claimed that the National Conference is complicit in the abrogation of Article 370, arguing that Dr. Abdullah has forfeited any moral authority to criticize the move. He emphasized that voters deserve transparency about the interactions between NC leaders and the central government during this critical period.
In a striking revelation about the political landscape, Haji also accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and NC of colluding to deceive the electorate. He highlighted the recent exchange of candidates between the two parties, noting that Devender Singh Rana, a former NC MLA from Nagrota, is now contesting as a BJP candidate, while a BJP DDC member from Nagrota has switched allegiance to run as an NC candidate. This, he argued, is indicative of a deeper, concealed partnership aimed at misleading the electorate.
Haji Shak Mohammed’s campaign aims not only to galvanize support for the BSP but also to awaken the political consciousness of the people of Nagrota, urging them to consider their future and the legacy of the leadership they choose at the polls. With the elections on the horizon, the stakes are high, and the residents of Nagrota are being urged to reflect on their choices carefully.
