Rajouri, September 7: In a day-long firefight, while foiling an infiltration bid from across the LoC in the Mandi sub-sector of the Poonch district, Indian troops eliminated two terrorists on the intervening night of September 5 & 6.
During a search of the area after the first light on Wednesday, the Army recovered the body of a terrorist along with 2 bags carrying arms, ammunition, food items, wire cutters, night vision device, medicines, etc.
Sources said the search for the body of the second terrorist is still in progress as the area falls in the dense forest.
The recovery made from the possession of the slain terrorist includes one AK 47 rifle along with 4 magazines, one pistol along with 2 magazines and 44 rounds, one grenade, one binocular, 1- night vision device, one pouch, two wire cutters, one small knife, 16 batteries,6 bandages, one roll of doctor tape, one box of water purifier tablets,, 8 medicine sachet, 2 injection needle, clothes, rain trouser, rain jackets etc.
The eatable items recovered from the bags include fresh Parathas, chutney, salt, apples, dates salt, namkeen, almond, biscuits, ready-to-eat food & Pakistan-made medicines.
Two terrorists coming from across the border were observed crossing the Line of Control (LoC) on the intervening night of September 5 & 6 in the Mandi sub-sector of Poonch district. A Joint operation was launched immediately by the Army & Poonch police to intercept them.
As the terrorists approached the Indian ambush sites, they were challenged and then engaged with effective fire.
Both the terrorists taking advantage of hostile terrain, dense forest & steep gradients fired heavily on the Indian Forces.
“In the effective firelight by our troops, that continued for a day, both the terrorists were eliminated. The body of one terrorist along with war like store was recovered while a search for the body of the second terrorist is in progress” said PRO (Defence) Jammu, L Col Suneel Bartwal.
