Rajouri, April 21: Army on Friday organised a wreath-laying ceremony with full Military traditions here at Rajouri to pay homage to the supreme sacrifice of the five Bravehearts of the Indian Army who laid down their lives in the line of duty in Poonch district on April 20.
Senior civil and Army officers, including General Officer Commanding (GoC), Romeo Force, and Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Jammu, Mukesh Singh, and civil dignitaries paid homage to the soldiers.
The Bravehearts of the Indian Army, Hav Mandeep Singh, L/NK Kulwant Singh, Sepoy Harkrishan Singh, and Sepoy Sewak Singh, all natives of Punjab and L/NK Debashish Biswal, a native of Odisha State made the supreme sacrifice in a gruesome terrorist attack on 20 Apr 2023.
The soldiers were from a Rashtriya Rifles unit deployed for counter-terror operations.
“The nation will always remain indebted to our bravehearts for their supreme sacrifice and devotion to duty. The Indian Army and our proud Nation expressed their solidarity with the bereaved families,” said an officer.
The mortal remains of four soldiers from Punjab are being sent by road from Rajouri at about 2.30 pm and are likely to reach their respective hometowns tonight.
They are identified as Havildar Mandeep Singh resident of Chankoian Kacan village (Ludhiana), L/Nk Kulwant Singh from Charik (Moga), Sepoy Harkrishan Singh r/o Talwandi Barth (Gurdaspur) and Sepoy Sewak Singh r/o Bagha (Bathinda).
The mortal remains of Lance Naik Debashish resident of Algum Sami Khandayat in Odisha state were airlifted to his native place, PRO Defence said.
