Congress ‘Fiasco’: More Congress leaders to quit party posts, high command likely to summon JKPCC chief

Jammu, Nov 17: Stepping into the shoes of senior leadership, many Congress party leaders will also be quitting from prominent posts of the party in coming days while the high command may summon the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) president Ghulam Ahmad Mir to Delhi to explain about party’s political structure in the Union Territory.
“AICC President Sonia Gandhi has taken a serious note of senior leaders leaving top party posts expressing resentment over no change of JKPCC Chief since long and claiming that their time to time concerns are not paid heed by him,” sources privy to Congress party said.
In a major jolt to the Jammu and Kashmir unit of the Congress party on Tuesday, many senior leaders, including the former ministers, submitted their resignations from the prominent party positions to the AICC president Sonia Gandhi.
Sources said that the political development came ahead amid speculations that Assembly elections in Jammu Kashmir Union Territory may soon be announced.
“Besides senior leaders, who happen to be close aides of the former Chief Minister and Veteran Congress Stalwart Ghulam Nabi Azad, more resignations from prominent and prestigious posts are on cards,” they said.
Sources revealed that the high command in next few days may summon Ghulam Ahmad Mir to New Delhi to review the party’s scenario in Jammu and Kashmir at the earliest, many renowned faces left the Congress party and joined hands with different political outfits.
“For Congress, it is time for introspection and if the Jammu-based leaders have leveled allegations of discrimination on part of the JKPCC chief, then the party has to seriously think for its survival,” they added.
Congress leaders having allegiance to former J&K CM and veteran stalwart Ghulam Nabi Azad have resigned from respective party positions expressing resentment for not providing them opportunity in the party affairs.
Those who have resigned included senior Congress leaders from Jammu as well as from Valley, former ministers and legislators.
Sources said that the resignation has also been forwarded to former party president Rahul Gandhi as well as Rajni Patil, AICC In-charge Secretary for J&K.
Prominent among those, who have submitted the resignation, included G M Saroori, Jugal Kishore Sharma, Waqar Rasool, Dr Manohar Lal Sharma, Ghulam Nabi Monga, Naresh Gupta, Subash Gupta, Amin Bhat, Anwar Bhat and Inayat Ali. UNI
