Jammu, Nov 14: Amid rising dengue cases in Jammu city and Jammu, Kathua and Samba districts, the Health Department of Jammu Municipal Corporation mobilized on a war footing to eradicate dengue mosquito from entire Jammu city with seven fogging machines and 30 medicine spraying pumps and 30 additional pumps. Apart from releasing the fogging calendar, the Jammu Municipal Corporation has started the process of fogging and spraying medicines as per the need as well as started a public awareness campaign.
Apart from dengue, information about prevention of corona infection is also being disseminated among the people through various mediums under the public awareness campaign.
Let us inform that there are 75 wards under the Jammu Municipal Corporation and many people have also become victims of dengue in these wards. According to the corporation’s calendar, even though it may take a month for fogging in all the wards, but if there is a need for re-fogging in any ward, it will be done immediately as well as by spraying drugs, breeding of dengue mosquito larvae also stopped. are going. That is, the campaign to eliminate the female mosquito responsible for dengue disease is being carried out rapidly.
On Monday 15 November on behalf of the Municipal Corporation, Ward no. Similarly, on November 16, fogging will be done in ward numbers 24, 25 and 26 of the city. On November 12, fogging started from ward number 1, 2, 3 of the city. On November 13, the city’s ward number was 16,17,18. That is, fogging in three wards may take till December, but efforts are being made to trace and eliminate all the sources of mosquito breeding through pumps.
 Dr. Sanjogita Sudan, the health office of the Jammu Municipal Corporation, says that they now have seven fogging machines apart from 30 pumps to eliminate mosquito larvae. Apart from this, preparations are being made to spray medicines by preparing 30 more pumps so that the process of mosquito breeding can be directly attacked. Along with this, by giving information about this to the people through public awareness, measures are also being told to avoid falling prey to diseases.

In such a situation, Dr. Sanjogita Sudan says that there is a need to take precautions to prevent dengue. They say that dengue fever is caused by the bite of the Aedes aegypti mosquito.
Dr. Sanjogita told that behind the causes of dengue fever is female mosquito which lays eggs in water pots and plants near you. Due to the changing environment, this species of mosquito can live throughout the year and can infect humans as well as animals.
He said Aedes aegypti, which spreads dengue, is a small, dark colored mosquito with tied legs. Because of this, these female mosquitoes are not able to fly high and aegypti are smaller than other mosquitoes. Mosquitoes usually bite people indoors and lay eggs during the day in water that contains organic matter like leaves, algae, etc.
Dr. Sanjogita further told that this female mosquito lays eggs three days after biting humans. When the eggs are filled with water in the rain, the larvae hatch from them. Generally, the larvae feed on algae, small aquatic organisms, plant particles in containers filled with water. The complete cycle from egg to adult i.e. mosquito is 7-8 days and the life span of an adult mosquito is about three weeks.
Dr. Sanjogita further told that to prevent dengue mosquito, check the water filled pits or containers around your house. Clean and sanitize water utensils weekly. Fill tree holes and other cavities in plants with soil or sand.
Cover yourself by wearing a long-sleeved shirt, long pants, shoes and socks. Apply mosquito repellent with at least 10 percent DEET to open areas. Use cradles and mosquito nets to protect children from dengue. Also make sure you keep your doors and windows closed during the day. Even if five milliliters of water remains in the discarded water bottle, it becomes an ideal breeding ground for Aedes aegypti, he said.
Dr. Sanjogita told that the Aedes aegypti mosquito mainly bites during the day. It is most active two hours after sunrise and several hours before sunset. But there are chances that it can bite you at night as well. Since this mosquito cannot fly high, it usually bites at the ankles and elbows.
