Police starts investigation after burnt body of newly born found outside Rajouri GMC gate

Rajouri, Nov 1: The Rajouri police have started an investigation after a ‘burnt body’ of the newly born baby was found in a dump of garbage outside the main gate of the Government Medical College & Associated Hospital (GMC&AH) in the wee hours on Monday.
Principal Government Medical College & Associated Hospital (GMC&AH) and Deputy Commissioner Rajouri have initiated an inquiry into the incident.
According to Dr.Brij Mohan Principal GMC&AH at about 4 am Rehriwalas put fire in the dump of the garbage to clear the space.
After sometimes Auto-Rickshaw drivers again lit fire reportedly to warm themselves, however, one among them saw a body of a newborn baby (girl) & dodged the fire.
The matter was brought in the notice of GMC&AH authorities and the police.
On getting informed of the incident Rajesh Kumar Shavan, Deputy Commissioner deputed Tehsildar Rajouri, Mehmood Khan to investigate the matter with the help of concerned officials/officers of GMC&AH.
“On the direction from the Deputy Commissioner the record of the newly born babies during last more than 48 hours has been handed over to Tehsildar (Magistrate). There was only one case of ‘born dead’ baby during this period and was buried by the parents” said Dr. Mehmood Hussain Bajar, Medical Superintendent GMC&AH.
Police are investigating the matter, a post-mortem has been conducted after the legal formalities by the police & the report is awaited.
Meanwhile Dr.Brij Mohan, Principal, GMC&AH said after the incident, he had talked with those who have first seen the body of the baby.
“I have also talked to the Gynaecologist on duty & Matron and the Supervisor. According to them three babies were born in the hospital during the last 24 hours as per hospital record and all are present in the hospital” said Dr Brij Mohan.
A team consisting of Paediatrician, Radiologist & forensic expert to know whether the baby was newborn or old, he added.
