Rajouri, May 28: In a major & reportedly biggest-ever recovery of drugs, the Indian Army and district Poonch police in a joint search operation launched after specific inputs seized 44 kilograms of narcotics (heroin) worth crores of rupees from a border village in Poonch district on Saturday.
Sources said that the search operation was launched on May 25 and in one of the longest operations the recovery of the narcotics was made on May 28.
Sources added that the consignment of narcotics was hidden near Bagyaldhara & Malti forward villages to be smuggled to other parts of the UT of J&K by the OGWs operating in this side of the Line of Control (LoC).
Officials concerned didn’t rule out the attempt to push the consignment of narcotics by the anti-national elements operating across the LoC possibly to fund terror activities on our side of LoC.
Sources said no arrest has been made yet in this connection, however, the police have started further investigation in this matter.
This was the biggest recovery of drugs in Poonch district. Earlier on February 27, Securit Forces had recovered a bag from the Balakot sector in Mendhar containing about 15 Kg of heroin-like substance.
Thwarting another major drug smuggling attempt from across the border, the Indian Army & district Poonch police had recovered about 31 Kg of narcotics smuggled from across the LoC (possibly heroin) in an operation launched close to LoC.
