78 FIRs Registered, Major Land Scam Unearthed; 13 Convicted

Srinagar/Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) intensified its crackdown on corruption in 2025 by registering 78 FIRs, uncovering a major custodian land scam, and securing convictions of 13 accused persons in seven cases, reaffirming its zero-tolerance policy against graft.
Officials said the cases included 36 trap cases involving bribe demands, 18 disproportionate-assets cases, 15 cases of abuse of official position, eight cases related to fraudulent alienation of custodian land, and one case of illegal appointments. Charge-sheets were filed in 43 cases during the year.
The Bureau strengthened preventive vigilance, conducting 703 verifications and disposing of 764 matters, including previous pendency. To plug systemic loopholes, the ACB issued 41 alert notes and 91 advisories to the Government highlighting corruption-prone areas and procedural lapses.
District Vigilance Officers played a key role, disposing of 3,960 complaints in 2025 alone. Over the last five years, 15,197 matters were referred, with nearly 90 per cent disposal.
The ACB also conducted 18 Joint Surprise Checks, registered 25 Preliminary Enquiries, and enhanced public outreach through Vigilance Awareness Programmes. Reiterating its commitment to transparent governance, the Bureau urged citizens to report corruption through its confidential complaint mechanisms.
