Akhnoor, Aug 10: In a vibrant display of local tradition and sportsmanship, Panchayat Panjgrain Lehar today organised a grand Mela & Dangal that drew wrestling enthusiasts and spectators from across the region. The event witnessed an electric atmosphere with over 50 exciting bouts, making it a memorable day for the local community.
The highlight of the competition was the top bout between Rishu and Rashid, which kept the audience on edge and carried a reward of ?21,000. The second main bout between Surjeet and Yuvraj also delivered intense action, with a prize of ?15,000. Both top bouts ended as draw. Wrestlers from various parts of the area showcased their skills, strength, and sportsmanship throughout the day.
The occasion was graced by Hon’ble MLA Akhnoor Mohan Lal Bhagat, who addressed the gathering, applauding the efforts of the organisers for preserving and promoting the traditional sport of wrestling. He encouraged the youth to actively participate in such events, which not only promote physical fitness but also strengthen community bonds.
Also prominently present were DDC Member Bhushan Bral, Ganesh Sharma, and Subash Chander, Naib Sarpanch Dhok Khalsa, among others, who extended their best wishes to the organisers and participants.
The Mela & Dangal was meticulously arranged by the Dangal Committee Panchayat Panjgrain Lehar, which included Vijay Kumar (Sarpanch), Kuldeep Raj, Lashman Dass, Ankush Sharma, Mohan Lal Panch, Janak Raj Panch, Ram Lal Panch, and other dedicated members. Their teamwork ensured a smooth and successful event.
