Jammu, June 29: A felicitation ceremony was organised at Jagdamba Palace, Jammu North, to honour meritorious students of Class 10th and 12th from various schools across the constituency. Over 55 students were awarded for their academic excellence.
The event was presided over by Hon’ble MLA Jammu North, Shri Sham Lal Sharma, who presented certificates and mementoes to the students in recognition of their dedication and performance.
Addressing the gathering, Shri Sharma congratulated the students, parents, and teachers, highlighting the critical role of holistic education in nation-building. He stressed the importance of not just academic achievement, but also the cultivation of character, civic sense, and values.
Advocating gender equality in education, Shri Sharma reiterated his support for initiatives like “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao,” stating that educated and empowered girls are key drivers of economic and social progress. He, however, expressed concern over ongoing gender-based discrimination and urged society to address these issues collectively.
Encouraging youth to steer clear of drugs and social evils, Shri Sharma urged students to lead healthy, disciplined lives and become active participants in the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. He called on them to be responsible citizens and contributors to the vision of a “Viksit Bharat by 2047”.
Reaffirming his commitment to education and youth development, Shri Sharma assured continued support for such initiatives that recognise merit and foster community engagement.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks and a community lunch, attended by students, parents, educators, and local citizens.
