Jammu, May 22: In a commendable effort to promote ecological harmony and raise awareness about the vital role of biodiversity, the Ramban Forest Division celebrated the International Day of Biodiversity 2025 with a significant and symbolic plantation drive. The events took place at Nagarvatika Kunda and the Forest Range Officer Complex in Ramban, where a variety of traditional medicinal plants were planted as part of a broader initiative to reconnect people with nature.
The celebration was held under the dynamic leadership and insightful supervision of Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Ankit Sinha, IFS, whose vision of integrating conservation with community participation continues to drive sustainable forestry practices in the region.
This year’s theme – “Be Part of the Plan” – was brought to life through the plantation of heritage medicinal species, emphasizing their ecological, cultural, and health benefits. These plants not only support local biodiversity but also preserve ancient traditional knowledge systems, promoting a symbiotic relationship between nature and society.
Speaking on the occasion, DFO Ankit Sinha highlighted the critical need for protecting medicinal plants as key components of both biodiversity conservation and holistic health. “By planting these traditional species, we are not just greening our spaces but also safeguarding centuries of indigenous wisdom and contributing to environmental resilience,” he remarked.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from forest officials, local volunteers, and members of the community. Educational discussions were also held to raise awareness about the role of biodiversity in sustaining life and the urgent need for its protection amid increasing environmental challenges.
The initiative was lauded as a forward-thinking step by the Forest Department in creating green spaces that also serve as living repositories of native flora, capable of providing ecological balance and promoting health through nature-based solutions.
Through this inspiring effort, the Ramban Forest Division has once again demonstrated its unwavering commitment to environmental stewardship, biodiversity protection, and public engagement, setting an example for other regions to emulate.
